The Discobolus of Myron is a greek sculpture from the Classical Period, figuring a youthful ancient Greek athlete throwing discus, about 460-450 B.C.
The name Parthenon derives from one of Athena's epithets: Athena Parthenos , meaning Virgin. It means house of Parthenos which was the name given in the 5th century BCE to the chamber inside the temple which housed the cult statue.
The first marathon commemorated the run of the soldier Pheidippides from a battlefield near the town of Marathon ,to Athens in 490 B.C. He ran the approximately 25 miles to announce the defeat of the Persians to the Athenians.
